As Nigerians adjust to Uber’s exit from the Nigerian market, local mobility company Shuttlers has introduced a new option for Lagos commuters: Shuttlers Pod, a scheduled door-to-door shared car service.
The new service allows passengers travelling along similar routes to share a vehicle, with each Pod carrying between three and four riders. Unlike traditional carpooling arrangements, passengers are picked up from their locations and dropped directly at their destinations.
Each trip comes with a fixed fare, guaranteed pickup and a named driver known as a “Pilot”, removing the uncertainty of surge pricing and roadside fare negotiations.
According to Shuttlers, Pod fares are approximately 50% cheaper than typical ride-hailing fares, with the company attributing the savings to advance booking and fixed pricing.
Passengers can also choose to book an entire vehicle privately.
The launch comes at a significant moment for Lagos’ transportation market, following Uber’s decision to discontinue its operations in Nigeria on September 2, 2026. Shuttlers says the new service is designed to respond to rising living costs and the growing need for more affordable ways to move around the city.
Damilola Olokesusi, co-founder and CEO of Shuttlers, said the company developed Pod around the reality that living costs are rising faster than incomes.
The company describes Pod as an extension of its existing scheduled shared-transport model, bringing the same approach into private and shared trips.
Founded in 2016, Shuttlers says it has now completed more than 10 million journeys, with more than 600,000 monthly trips across over 1,000 itineraries and 400 routes.
The company currently operates more than 430 buses daily across Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, serving more than 50,000 professionals.
With Pod, Shuttlers is betting that sharing a ride can offer Lagos commuters something increasingly important: a more predictable and affordable way to get around.
